Charles Rettig Adds His Insight to Tax Notes Article
In an article published in Tax Notes Federal on June 27, 2024, Shareholder Chuck Rettig added his insight on the indictment of Roger Ver, a bitcoin investor who was charged with mail fraud, tax evasion and false return charges. Rettig joined other tax practitioners to analyze the case and what to be aware of with digital assets.
As former IRS Commissioner, Rettig has a strong understanding of how the IRS may handle situations like this. Rettig noted that the IRS has strong capabilities when it comes to deanonymizing cryptocurrency transactions.
“IRS-Criminal Investigation, working alone or in coordination with others, has perfected the ability to identify and seize many billions of dollars of cryptocurrencies.” said Rettig.
